The Nigerian gospel music industry has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of veteran gospel music maestro and accordionist, Evangelist (Mrs.) Toun Soetan.

The legendary singer, fondly addressed as “Mummy Toun Soetan,” reportedly passed away in the early hours of Friday.

While the family is yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of her death, news of her transition has sent shockwaves through the Christian community and the entertainment industry at large.

The late Evangelist Soetan was a household name in the late 80s and 90s, famous for her unique style of gospel music backed by her signature accordion. She led the popular group, Toun Soetan and her Trinity Singers, and was a regular feature in several Mount Zion Faith Ministries productions.

Some of her most iconic works include ‘Iye Re’, ‘Lori Oke ni Petele’, and ‘Gbe Jesu Ga’, songs that shaped the childhood and spiritual lives of many Nigerians.

Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to commiserate with her husband, Daddy Titus Soetan, and the entire family.

Tributes describing her as a “General in God’s army” and a “consistent voice of grace” have continued to pour in as the industry grapples with the loss of another icon.

Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
