The political atmosphere in Rivers State has turned “bloody” as the rivalry between the state’s biggest titans reached a breaking point. On Friday, March 6, 2026, the quiet community of Ubima became a war zone when armed thugs launched a coordinated strike to stop former Governor Rotimi Amaechi from joining his new party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

What was meant to be a high-profile membership registration turned into a “miraculous escape” for the former Minister of Transportation as his convoy was ambushed in a hail of bullets.

The terror began in the “wee hours” of Friday morning. Residents of Ubima woke up to the sight of the ADC Ward 8 Secretariat engulfed in flames. Sources say a gang of political miscreants invaded the facility, destroyed every piece of equipment, and set the building ablaze—just hours before Amaechi’s scheduled arrival.

Not satisfied with the fire, the gunmen reportedly turned their sights on Amaechi’s family residence, riddling the gate with bullets in an attempt to send a chilling message.

As Amaechi’s convoy approached the community between Ubima and Omuanwa, the situation escalated from vandalism to assassination attempt. Armed men had mounted a roadblock and opened fire on the former Governor’s vehicles.

However, the attackers met their match. Security operatives in Amaechi’s team—including men from the Police and DSS—engaged the thugs in a fierce gun battle. After a display of superior firepower, the gunmen were forced to retreat into the nearby bushes, allowing Amaechi to proceed with his registration.

APC Chieftain Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has reacted with fury, directly pointing fingers at the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Tinubu.

“Attempting to stop Amaechi from moving to his hometown to register shows how afraid both Wike and Tinubu are,” Eze stated on Saturday.

He claimed the attack was a desperate attempt to suppress Amaechi’s growing influence in the ADC, which is quickly becoming the “opposition powerhouse” ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the bullet holes and the burnt office, a calm Rotimi Amaechi addressed his mammoth crowd of supporters. He praised the Commissioner of Police and the Director of DSS for their “professionalism” in saving his life but warned that the violence must stop.

“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” Amaechi declared.

The Rivers State Police Command, through spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the “fire outbreak” and the attack, promising that the miscreants behind the mayhem will be hunted down and brought to justice.
