President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday performed the official swearing-in of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The ceremony, which reinforces the leadership of the nation’s internal security apparatus, follows the Nigeria Police Council’s endorsement of Disu on Monday, subsequent to his initial appointment by the President.

The inauguration was witnessed by a high-powered delegation of the Federal Executive, including Vice President Kashim Shettima; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu.

Also present were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack.

Beyond the police leadership, President Tinubu also administered the oath of office to six newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The new commissioners include Abubakar Wamakko (Sokoto), Senator Marafa Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Waziri (Adamawa), Hadizatu Mustapha (Borno), Helen Bob (Bayelsa), and Oladele Gboyega (Osun). Additionally, new members were inducted into the Federal Civil Service Commission to strengthen the country’s bureaucratic efficiency.

The proceedings served as a precursor to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which commenced at approximately 3:00 pm.

The meeting, presided over by the President, is expected to address critical matters of national security and fiscal policy following the expansion of the RMAFC and the formalization of the IGP’s tenure. As of the time of this report, the session remains ongoing behind closed doors.
