• Dashed Hopes: Secret Police whisk former AGF away moments after perfecting N500m bail • “Terrorism Financing”: New allegations deepen the woes of ex-Justice Minister

ABUJA — In a shocking development this evening, the hope of freedom for former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, was brutally cut short in a dramatic twist of fate that can only be described as jumping from the frying pan straight into the fire.

Just moments after stepping out of the gates of Kuje Prison, having painstakingly fulfilled the stringent bail conditions—including a N500 million bond—set for his money laundering case with the EFCC, Malami was immediately intercepted and re-arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The drama unfolded right at the prison precincts. Malami, who had been detained alongside his wife and son over money laundering allegations, believed the worst was over after securing bail.

However, sources revealed that DSS operatives had been laying in wait. As he stepped out, expecting to go home, he was promptly picked up, signaling that his legal nightmare had only just begun.

While the EFCC case revolves around financial impropriety, the DSS arrest suggests a far more dangerous dimension.

Security sources disclosed to newsmen that the secret police moved in following the shocking discovery of arms and ammunition at Malami’s country home in Kebbi State during a previous search. This discovery has reportedly triggered “weighty petitions” linking the former Minister to alleged terrorism financing.

One source painted a grim picture of the situation:

“Yes, DSS operatives arrested Malami. There are petitions bordering on terrorism financing. You know terrorism is a serious global offence. No responsible government will turn a blind eye to such, no matter how highly placed the suspect is.”

In a twist of irony, the source reminded the public of Malami’s own words during his tenure as AGF, where he vowed that the government would never shield anyone linked to terrorism financing.

“He vowed that the government of the day would not shield any person linked to terrorism. Now, inter-agency cooperation is at work. The DSS is the sole agency tasked with investigating these weighty allegations,” the source added.

The embattled former Minister has continued to maintain his innocence. Malami insists that the barrage of arrests—first by the EFCC and now the DSS—is a calculated political “witch-hunt” by the current administration designed to humiliate him.

As he trades the EFCC’s holding cell for the DSS interrogation room, it is clear that the former Chief Law Officer is facing the battle of his life.
