Twelve people were killed and three injured on Sunday when a truck crashed into bystanders at Gada-Biyu village along the Abuja–Lokoja Highway. The incident occurred around 11:47 a.m., involving an 18-seater Sharon bus, two Volkswagen Golf cars, and the truck loaded with coal, which lost control at high speed.
The victims included four adult males, two adult females, four male children, and two female children, all pronounced dead at the scene. Three other individuals were taken to Abaji General Hospital for treatment. The truck driver and conductor fled after the crash.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the accident to speeding and reckless driving. They plan to meet with the transport company involved, as this marks the second crash of the same truck on the highway. Additionally, the FRSC has instructed that motorists picking up passengers at Gada-Biyu be moved to safer locations.
