A chorus of commendations from top government functionaries, administrators, and youth stakeholders has greeted the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) as it prepares for the official unveiling of its flagship publication, “2024 Compendium of Youth Activities in Ogun State.”
Acknowledging a series of powerful tributes addressed to the State Chairman, Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, the 116-page document has been described as an indispensable record of ingenuity and resilience, aimed at institutionalizing youth contributions to the Gateway State.
In a foreword written by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, all stakeholders—including public servants and community leaders—are encouraged to study the document and join the State Government in strengthening a collective commitment to the young leaders shaping Ogun State’s trajectory.
“It is with immense pride in the ingenuity, resilience, and dedication of the young people of Ogun State that I present this ‘2024 Compendium of Youth Activities in Ogun State’ to the public. This publication is more than a record of events; it is a compelling testament to the enduring partnership between the Ogun State Government—under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON—and the united voice of our youths through the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter,” Talabi stated.
Leading the accolades, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele FNSE, described the publication as “a fitting tribute to the hardwork, creativity, and community spirit of the young people of Ogun State.”
Expressing hopes that the Compendium will serve as a torch for future generations, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, emphasized the strategic importance of the document: “The publishing of this document is an indispensable step towards documentation, accountability, and strategic planning, ensuring that future youth programs are built on verifiable successes.”
Affirming the transformative potential of the youth, the Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, noted: “This publication stands as a testament to the unwavering spirit, ingenuity, and transformative potential of our people, who remain at the heart of our state’s development and progress.”
In solidarity, other Cabinet members of the Ogun State Government also extended their felicitations. The Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, expressed delight at the emphasis on environmental sustainability and conservation, stating, “I appreciate the publishers for documenting and sharing the stories of Ogun State’s youths. Your work will inspire and motivate others.”
Hon. Ganiu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, commended the Council for galvanizing youth engagement, noting the initiative is “not only timely but also reflective of the coordinated strides being made by the youth as a constituency.”
On his part, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism — Hon. Sesan Fagbayi — highlighted the compendium as a “valuable resource” for promoting cultural heritage and youth empowerment, adding that youth energy is the “driving force behind our state’s progress.”
Lastly, TPl. Olatunji Odunlami, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, congratulated the NYCN for the commendable publication, praying that it “inspires and motivates more young people to strive for excellence wherever they find themselves.”
As reviews and encomiums continue to roll in, the official unveiling of the Compendium is expected to be a milestone event, marking a new era of documented excellence for the youth leadership of Ogun State.
