Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has praised Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the revalidation of the operating license for the Ondo Deep Sea Port, calling it a significant milestone with economic ramifications for the state and Nigeria.
Governor Aiyedatiwa indicated that the port will serve as a major hub for international trade, benefiting both Ondo and neighboring West African countries. He received the revalidated license from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola, after the original was corrected for errors.
Afenifere’s National Organizing Secretary, Kole Omololu, remarked that the revalidated license removes regulatory barriers and ensures legal certainty for the port’s development. The port’s depth allows it to accommodate very large vessels, which will reduce congestion at Lagos ports and improve logistics efficiency.
The project is expected to stimulate economic activity across the South-West through industrial clustering and job creation while enhancing regional trade within the ECOWAS framework. Afenifere also recognized the Federal Government’s support, urging continued collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.
The organization concluded that the completed port will bring lasting prosperity to Ondo State, the South-West, and Nigeria as a whole.
