Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) is investigating allegations made by patient Mr. Joshua Afolayan, who claims that doctors removed one of his kidneys during surgery without his consent.
At a press conference in Ado Ekiti, Afolayan explained that he suffered an accident in August 2025, which led to the discovery that his right kidney was damaged, while his left kidney was healthy. Despite being able to urinate just before the surgery in October, he has since been unable to do so and later found out he was living without one kidney after consulting another medical facility.
In response, Dr. Adedamola Dada, Chairman of the Board of Management at EKSUTH, formed a seven-member inquiry panel to investigate these allegations. The panel will be chaired by Prof. Francis Faduyile from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, with other members including various medical and community leaders.
The panel has ten days to submit its report, and the hospital management has assured the public that it will thoroughly investigate the claims. They urged all affected parties to cooperate during this process.
