Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to protect Nigerians, stating that the situation has deteriorated to the point where citizens have the right to seek help from the international community.
Speaking at an event in Jos, Plateau State, he highlighted the rising insecurity and ongoing violence, labeling it a national disaster not tied to specific regions or groups. Obasanjo emphasized that the increasing death toll shows the government has lost its primary duty of protecting its citizens.
He noted, “We Nigerians are being killed, and our government seems incapable of protecting us. If our government cannot help, we can call on the international community.” He rejected narratives that downplay the crisis based on ethnicity or religion, asserting that any loss of life should concern all Nigerians.
Reflecting on his tenure, he revealed that while security agencies had the capability to locate criminals, they lacked the technology to apprehend them without troop deployment. “Now we have drones that can eliminate threats. Why are we not using them? Why are we negotiating instead of taking action?” he questioned.
