Former Senate Leader and All Progressives Congress chieftain in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, has warned party leaders and stakeholders against internal divisions ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying failure to unite could plunge the party into political oblivion.

Folarin gave the warning while addressing party stakeholders during his engagements with APC members, where he said the meetings were aimed at informing the party structures of his appointment by President Bola Tinubu as coordinator for the 2027 elections.

The former senator stressed that unity, reconciliation and loyalty to the party remained critical to its electoral fortunes, adding that no individual could achieve meaningful political success without the support of the party structure.

“Because if we don’t come together, we’re all going into political oblivion. That’s the truth of the matter,” he said.

Folarin acknowledged that grievances were inevitable in politics, particularly following party primaries and other internal processes. However, he urged aggrieved members to put aside personal differences and prioritise the collective interest of the APC.

He noted that he had experienced similar situations during his own political contests, adding that dissatisfaction with certain decisions should not prevent members from supporting candidates who emerged through the party’s processes.

“There is nothing wrong in being aggrieved; you can be aggrieved. But at the end of the day, you have to look at the big picture: the party,” Folarin said.

The APC chieftain maintained that genuine party loyalty required members to work towards the success of the party and its candidates, irrespective of individual disagreements or reservations about the process through which candidates emerged.

According to him, although party members might not agree with every decision or candidate, the emergence of candidates should mark the beginning of collective efforts towards securing electoral victories.

“You don’t have to like everybody. You may have issues about the process, but at the end of the day, candidates have emerged,” he added.

Folarin, who reiterated his commitment to the APC, dismissed suggestions that he was preparing to leave active politics, declaring that he had no immediate plans to retire.

His remarks come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with unity among party leaders and grassroots mobilisation expected to play significant roles in determining electoral outcomes.
