Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has mourned the death of Professor Idowu Sobowale, describing the late academic as an accomplished professional, wise counsellor and valued friend.

Mohammed, in a condolence message issued in Lagos on Thursday, said Sobowale’s death was a great loss to his family, friends and the wider community of educationists, communication scholars and public servants.

The former minister recalled the cordial relationship he shared with the deceased, noting that their association dated back to their time in the Lagos State Government.

Mohammed said Sobowale served as Special Adviser on Education to then Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while he was Chief of Staff to the governor.

“I was deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Prof. Idowu Sobowale. He was not only a highly respected professional but also a dear friend and a valued colleague,” Mohammed said.

He noted that their relationship continued even after both men left the cabinet, adding that Sobowale’s experience and maturity were valuable to the administration.

“He was the Special Adviser on Education to then Lagos Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu when I was the Chief of Staff. We had a uniquely good relationship which continued even after we both left the cabinet,” he said.

Mohammed also recalled Sobowale’s previous service under the late former Lagos State Governor, Lateef Jakande, saying the experience contributed to his understanding of education and public administration.

He said the late professor brought “a wealth of experience, wisdom and a deep understanding of education and public service” to his assignment.

Mohammed commiserated with Sobowale’s family, friends and associates, praying that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

He added that Sobowale’s contributions to education, public service and professional discourse would remain part of his enduring legacy.
