Following the safe release of the prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted, the Okanlomo Oodua and Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has called for unity and cooperation among leaders, while cautioning against politicising the ordeal of the young Nigerians and their families.

Sanusi, in a statement reacting to the development, described the safe return of the victims as a moment of profound relief and gratitude, particularly for their parents and loved ones who had endured days of fear, anguish and uncertainty.

He said the incident should remind Nigerians and leaders at all levels that the safety of citizens must remain the priority whenever lives are threatened.

According to him, young Nigerians who leave their homes to answer the call of national service should be able to pursue their aspirations without their families being subjected to the trauma and uncertainty associated with abduction.

Sanusi commended the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his concern and efforts surrounding the development, particularly his communication with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to confirm the release of the victims.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies and officials whose efforts contributed to securing the freedom of the prospective corps members.

The Ibadan-based businessman and community leader equally praised Oba Ladoja for his concern over the abducted young Nigerians, saying the traditional institution has an important role to play in providing reassurance and leadership during periods of crisis.

However, Sanusi expressed concern over what he described as the politicisation of the incident and criticism directed at the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

While acknowledging the importance of holding public officials accountable, he stressed that such scrutiny should be factual, fair and constructive, particularly when human lives are involved.

He cautioned that the ordeal of abducted Nigerians and the anguish of their families should not become an avenue for political point-scoring.

Sanusi said, “At moments involving human lives, our first instinct should be solidarity, cooperation and the safe return of those in danger—not the search for political advantage.”

He urged the Presidency, state governments, traditional institutions and security agencies to strengthen cooperation in responding to security threats, stressing that the protection of Nigerian lives should remain above political, ethnic, religious and geographical considerations.

Sanusi said the safe return of the prospective corps members should be seen as a moment of collective relief rather than an opportunity for division.

He prayed that the rescued youths would recover fully from the trauma of their experience and expressed hope that no parent would again have to endure the agony of uncertainty over the safety of a child sent out to serve the nation.

He also prayed for continued protection for Nigerian youths and peace and security across Oyo State, Imo State and Nigeria.
