The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chisco Group, Chief Chidi Anyiagbu, has donated two brand-new luxury buses to the Lagos Correctional Centre to facilitate the transportation of inmates to and from courts and support the speedy dispensation of justice. The donation was made in Lagos as part of activities marking Chief Anyiagbu’s 70th birthday celebration. Speaking with journalists in Ikoyi, Lagos, Chief Anyiagbu explained that inadequate logistics for conveying inmates to court had remained a major challenge affecting the timely administration of justice. According to him, the gesture was aimed at complementing government efforts and addressing some of the transportation challenges confronting correctional facilities. He said, “Logistics in conveying inmates to court has been a major challenge, and this has, in some cases, affected the timely dispensation of justice. We therefore considered it necessary to support the government by providing buses for the correctional centres.” Chief Anyiagbu also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to support the government in addressing critical gaps in logistics and infrastructure, noting that such interventions would help public institutions function more effectively. Receiving the buses on behalf of the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Assistant Controller-General of Corrections in charge of Zone A, Raph Onazi, expressed appreciation to Chief Anyiagbu for the gesture. Onazi assured that the buses would be put to effective use, particularly in facilitating the movement of inmates and correctional officers to and from courts, thereby contributing to faster justice delivery. The Deputy Controller of Corrections at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, DCC Ogueri, also commended the Chisco chairman for the donation, describing it as a significant intervention that would positively impact the lives of inmates. Ogueri recalled that in 2025, Chief Anyiagbu’s son, Mr Obinna Anyiagbu, had donated items to the centre and subsequently introduced his father to the facility. He noted that one of the most important things that could be done for inmates was to ensure that they had regular access to the courts to enable their cases to progress. According to him, the newly donated buses would go a long way in facilitating court appearances and supporting the administration of justice for a significant proportion of inmates at the facility. As part of the celebration, the Ikoyi Correctional Centre also honoured Chief Anyiagbu by appointing him as its patron. In addition to the two buses, Chief Anyiagbu donated five bags of rice to the correctional centre as part of his birthday outreach. The gesture has been described as a significant contribution towards improving mobility at the facility and supporting efforts to ensure the timely administration of justice.
