In a renewed drive to boost operational efficiency and enhance troop welfare, the Nigerian Army has inaugurated a series of upgraded administrative, security, and recreational facilities at the 81 Division Garrison Headquarters in Lagos. The strategic infrastructure projects align with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which prioritises the “Soldier First Culture” and places the well-being and morale of personnel at the heart of military leadership.

The newly commissioned and refurbished infrastructure includes modernised administrative offices designed to foster a conducive working environment for daily staff duties, alongside an upgraded reception area that improves access control and security management across the complex. To further strengthen accountability and operational preparedness, the Garrison also unveiled a refurbished armoury equipped for enhanced weapon and ammunition security. In addition to the administrative upgrades, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a modern children’s playground within the barracks to support the recreational needs and overall welfare of soldiers’ families.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the Garrison Commander for executing the projects within a short timeframe and demonstrating purposeful leadership. He charged military commanders across formations to ensure that their leadership translates into measurable improvements within their units, stressing that operational success is directly tied to troop morale and family welfare. Major General Babalola declared that commanders would be judged by tangible achievements, noting that he expects to see the direct impact of their efforts on a monthly basis. He added that while the new playground reflects the Army’s dedication to military families, the renovated armoury will reinforce security and accountability, urging personnel to maintain the infrastructure through discipline and professionalism.

In his remarks, the Commander of the 81 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Ahmed Getso, stated that the projects were executed to improve operational effectiveness and provide a better working and living environment for personnel. He emphasized that the upgrades reflect a deep commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the prudent utilisation of resources. Brigadier General Getso expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for his unwavering strategic support, noting that the improvements will significantly contribute to the Garrison’s daily operational duties.

The ceremony attracted a broad gathering of dignitaries, including serving and retired senior military officers, industry stakeholders, and representatives from the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area. The event concluded with an inspection of the newly commissioned facilities and the formal groundbreaking for the barracks playground.
