No fewer than 1,000 members of the Accord Party across the 12 wards in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming weeks.

The planned defection was disclosed during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Mandate Group for Senator Sharafadeen Alli held on Wednesday in the IITA area of Akinyele Local Government.

The group said the formal declaration into the APC would take place in the next few weeks, describing the move as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Abiodun Adeyemi, a former Accord chieftain and leader of the Mandate Group in Akinyele, said the defectors had resolved to join the APC in support of Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s political vision.

Also speaking, former Accord Chairman in Akinyele Local Government, Pastor Michael Oni, declared that the party no longer has a clear direction.

According to him, members have lost confidence in the party and are convinced that the APC provides a better platform for political participation and grassroots development.

“There is no hope in Accord anymore. The party and its governorship ambition have no direction. We have resolved to mobilise our people across all communities to support the APC and Senator Sharafadeen Alli,” he said.

Pastor Oni expressed confidence that Senator Alli’s leadership would promote local government autonomy and ensure that development reaches every part of Oyo State.

He added that members of the Mandate Group would continue to persuade more politicians from other parties to join the APC before the official declaration.

The stakeholders maintained that the planned defection would further strengthen the APC’s structure in Akinyele Local Government.

Those who attended the meeting included Pastor Michael Oni, Alhaji Muibi Akinsola, Eesuola Akintunde, representatives of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Comrade Lanre Safiu, Engr. Lateef Latade, Teslim Olomopupo, former APC Ward 5 Chairman Olawoore Mudasiru, as well as former Accord members Hon. Abiodun Adeyemi, Pastor Michael Oni and Gbadegesin Dasola.

The organisers said preparations have been concluded for the official reception of the defectors, which is expected to attract APC leaders and supporters from across Oyo State.
