Fresh details have emerged over the controversy surrounding the alleged interruption of a live political programme on Fresh FM, with an insider dismissing claims by politician Diran Odeyemi that the station’s founder, Yinka Ayefele, deliberately halted the broadcast. The development follows Odeyemi’s allegation that a live edition of Agbami Oselu, in which he featured, was abruptly stopped on the directive of Ayefele, sparking widespread reactions across political and media circles. However, a source familiar with the station’s operations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the claim was misleading, insisting that the interruption had nothing to do with politics or editorial interference. According to the source, Fresh FM had been battling technical challenges before the programme commenced, affecting the station’s audio transmission and forcing management to suspend several scheduled broadcasts. The insider disclosed that the situation was not peculiar to Agbami Oselu, stressing that other programmes scheduled within the same period were equally affected and had to be recorded. “The station has been experiencing technical issues. This was not targeted at any individual or programme. It affected multiple broadcasts, not just Agbami Oselu,” the source said. The source further revealed that the station’s Chief Executive Officer, Yinka Ayefele, has already invested millions of naira in acquiring new broadcast equipment to address the audio challenges and strengthen the station’s operations as part of its expansion plans. The insider added that the edition of Agbami Oselu featuring Diran Odeyemi remains intact and will be replayed for listeners, dismissing suggestions that the programme was censored or intentionally suppressed. While urging members of the public to verify information before drawing conclusions, the source cautioned against dragging the media into partisan politics. According to the insider, Fresh FM remains committed to professionalism, balanced reporting and delivering quality programmes to its audience, maintaining that the station’s editorial decisions are guided by broadcasting ethics rather than political considerations.
