With the 2027 general elections looming on the horizon, a former Oyo State governorship aspirant, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, has issued a sharp challenge to political stakeholders, urging them to pivot from individual ambitions toward a singular, unified mission to rescue the state from its current socio-economic challenges.

Speaking against the backdrop of the New Hijri Year 1448, the APC chieftain, widely known as AKK, framed the state’s political future as a “necessary migration.” He argued that for Oyo State to transition from its current state of economic turbulence and infrastructure deficit, the political class must abandon the “toxic politics” of division and ethnic polarization that have historically hindered meaningful progress.

Dr. Kareem maintained that the state is currently traversing a “turbulent socio-economic desert” caused by the compounding decisions of the past. He asserted that the harsh economic realities and structural reforms currently affecting the masses are the painful, yet unavoidable, costs of securing a “Realistic Tomorrow.”

”True developmental growth requires that we endure the temporary discomforts of structural reform and remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellent governance,” Kareem stated. “To fellow progressives, we must be willing to sacrifice our personal comforts and individual political ambitions to build a united and impenetrable front.”

According to the former aspirant, the “political Hijrah”—his metaphor for a deliberate, collective shift in strategy—is the only path to achieving institutional redemption. He warned that without a move toward a more cohesive political structure focused on the collective good, the state would remain trapped in a cycle of stagnation.

As the political climate in Oyo State begins to heat up ahead of the next election cycle, Kareem’s call for a “united front” signals a potential push for alignment within the APC. His message underscores a shift in rhetoric, moving away from solitary ambition and toward a broader, consensus-driven approach intended to revitalize the state’s governance.

While acknowledging the weight of the sacrifices currently borne by ordinary citizens, Kareem expressed confidence that a dedicated, unified effort by stakeholders would eventually yield a prosperous and industrialized future. He concluded his appeal with a firm reminder to his supporters and party members that the work of transformation is “a task that must be done.”
