Tension flared at Premier Homes Estate in Abuja on May 18, 2026, after officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps allegedly invaded the site, assaulted workers, and detained six staff members.

According to the Managing Director of Premier Homes Interproject Limited, four truckloads of NSCDC personnel led by Commander Boniface Udeh and Assistant Commandant Braimoh Yakubu entered the estate around noon. The workers, who were clearing virgin land, were allegedly beaten with sticks and gun butts, and held at the NSCDC Zone 5 Command until 9 pm. Site manager Muhammad Jamiu Yakubu said he was headbutted, beaten, and had his shoulder dislocated. Other staff, including Dada, Lookman, and Abdul Karim, also reported injuries, while a phone and equipment were allegedly damaged.

At the heart of the incident is a dispute over land ownership. Premier Homes says it purchased 28 hectares from KYC Interproject Limited within a 170-hectare estate covered by an FCDA Right of Occupancy. The company stated it had signed a memorandum of understanding and avoided a contested 3-hectare portion with existing structures to prevent conflict.

The NSCDC officials claim the land belongs to the Civil Defence Cooperative Society, with Udeh serving as chairman and Yakubu as his deputy. Premier Homes maintains the matter is civil and should be addressed by the allocating authority or the courts.

The estate’s management said it had earlier reported the encroachment to the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Investigation Department, who advised them to resume work so the other party would identify itself. Following the May 18 incident, Premier Homes said it filed a direct criminal complaint against the NSCDC officers.

When contacted, Assistant Commandant Boniface Udeh declined to comment, stating only that the matter had been officially reported and that NSCDC was awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
