In a decisive move to preserve the stability of Oyo State, the leadership of Ibadanland has successfully brokered a peace deal between Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, effectively ending weeks of speculation regarding a fractured relationship at the state’s highest levels.

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), acting as the traditional mediator, confirmed on Sunday that the perceived feud has been extinguished through internal dialogue. The council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, declared that the “father-and-son” bond between the Governor and the monarch remains intact, dismissing rumors of a dethronement plot as the handiwork of external agitators.

The resolution serves as a firm rebuttal to claims recently amplified by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who had alleged an active conspiracy to remove the Olubadan. By deploying centuries-old conflict-resolution mechanisms, the elders of the ancient city have signaled that Ibadan’s traditional and political institutions are resilient enough to resolve sensitive disputes without outside interference.

Adding weight to this reconciliation, the Oyo State House of Assembly has moved to silence talk of political retaliation. Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola clarified that there are no discussions—formal or informal—regarding the impeachment of Governor Makinde. This unified front from both the traditional council and the legislature aims to restore public confidence and refocus the state on its developmental agenda.

Stakeholders, including the Association of Igbo Residents, have welcomed the de-escalation, urging political actors to cease fanning the flames of discord. With the feud officially “quashed,” the focus in Ibadan returns to infrastructure and economic growth, as the CCII reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the harmony that defines the leadership of the gateway city.
