In a rare and candid defense of the executive arm of government, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Abimbola Ajibola, has shut down whispers of an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, asserting that the governor’s dedication to the welfare of traditional rulers has made such a move unthinkable.

Speaking from his Sanyo Palace on Friday, the high-ranking member of the Olubadan-in-Council addressed the swirling political rumors with a blunt assessment of the Council’s relationship with the current administration. Oba Ajibola made it clear that the traditional institution has moved beyond being a mere ceremonial spectator, citing the tangible economic transformation the governor has brought to their lives.

“Since Governor Seyi Makinde assumed office, he has transformed the lives of many of us,” the monarch declared, noting that the financial struggles once associated with traditional titles have been relegated to the past. He credited the governor with doubling the welfare efforts of previous administrations, a move he says has fundamentally altered the financial standing of the city’s senior chiefs.

In a statement that highlighted the depth of the partnership between the palace and the state, Oba Ajibola remarked, “He has made many of us billionaires. That alone is enough to appreciate him. So why would we want to impeach someone like that?”

The Balogun further assured the public that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, remains committed to the stability of Oyo State and would not lend his weight to any destabilizing political maneuvers. By framing the governor’s support as a transformative force for the traditional institution, Oba Ajibola has effectively signaled that the Council views Makinde’s tenure as a period of unprecedented prosperity that they are not prepared to jeopardize.
