The state’s ruling party, through its Public Relations Officer, Michael Ogunsina, broke the silence on Tuesday morning, alleging that a coordinated effort is underway to destabilize the current administration. According to the PDP, the plot centers on a move to compromise the House of Assembly and force a change in leadership. In a dramatic revelation that has sent shockwaves through the state, Ogunsina claimed that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, had approached the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, with a request to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The monarch reportedly offered to secure a House of Representatives ticket for the Speaker under the APC banner, along with the necessary financial backing. Further fueling the fire, the PDP alleged that the widow of the late former governor, Chief Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, is actively pushing for the governor’s impeachment. The Speaker reportedly disclosed during a crucial meeting at the Governor’s Lodge that he was invited by the former First Lady on the same subject and was offered financial inducements, which he claimed to have declined. The allegations surfaced as lawmakers began addressing rumors of an impeachment plot following the high-stakes meeting with the governor. While the Deputy Speaker and several principal officers have since come forward to publicly deny involvement in any such scheme, the PDP insists that “underground moves” are being made to create a rift between the legislative and executive arms of government. The Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, in a detailed statement, completely distanced himself from the purported plot. He reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Makinde, describing the rumors as a calculated attempt by mischief-makers to disrupt the peace of the state. Oyekola emphasized that he was never invited to or consulted on any meetings regarding the governor’s removal. Despite these declarations of loyalty, political analysts believe the situation reflects deep-seated tensions within the state’s power structure. The silence of some members of the Assembly has added to the public curiosity and fueled speculation about the depth of the alleged conspiracy. As of the time of filing this report, neither the Olubadan’s palace nor the media office of Chief Mrs. Florence Ajimobi has issued a formal response to the PDP’s heavy allegations. However, the political landscape remains tense as residents and observers watch for the next move in what is shaping up to be a major constitutional and political crisis in the Pacesetter State.
