Seven months after a bloody confrontation at the Owode Onirin market sent shockwaves through Lagos, the law has finally caught up with the officers involved.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed on Thursday that four police officers have been summarily dismissed from the Force. The men are accused of participating in the August 2025 killing of seven traders during a violent clash involving suspected land grabbers.

In a startling revelation during a press briefing at the Ikeja Police Officers’ Mess, CP Jimoh disclosed that the dismissed officers weren’t originally attached to the Lagos Command. They were allegedly “imported” from Nasarawa State by the prime suspect, a man identified as Ariori, to carry out the unlawful operation.

Addressing fears that the high-profile case might go cold, the Police Chief assured the public that the file is nearly ready for court.

The Owode Onirin incident remains a dark spot in recent Lagos history, stemming from a 2025 dispute where traders were caught in the crossfire of a land-grabbing scheme. By stripping these officers of their uniforms, the Command is signaling a zero-tolerance policy for “hired gun” tactics within the Force.
