ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of the families of fallen heroes, insisting that their sacrifices for the nation’s unity must never be forgotten.

Governor Abiodun gave the assurance during the special parade and wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor stated that the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the country were the direct proceeds of the patriotism and supreme price paid by the deceased soldiers.

He pledged that his administration would continue to support the veterans of the Nigerian Armed Forces and prioritise the well-being of the spouses and children left behind by the departed heroes.

Abiodun noted that despite the prevailing security challenges facing the nation, the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day remains a necessary platform to honour the memory of those who fought to keep Nigeria united.

He said, “I commend the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army. Your professionalism, discipline, and commitment to duty continue to underpin the peace and stability we enjoy in Ogun State and across the country.

“We do not take your sacrifices for granted. We will continue to stand by you and ensure that the families of our fallen heroes are not abandoned.”

The governor also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed officers and men, acknowledging that their legacy of selfless service remains a beacon for national cohesion.
